June Psycho of the Month - Mistress of Mayhem #520![]() "I want to be a skater my teammates know they can count on" What did it feel like to win top overall player and top jammer in your rookie season? It was crazy cool to receive these awards, it means a lot to be viewed in that light by my fellow skaters. If you’d seen my first practice on skates you would have been stunned to hear my name called at the season closer celebrations, but it’s been a crazy wonderful year and I’ve learned so much. What motivates you to be a better and stronger athlete? I am extremely competitive and have high expectations of myself, which usually keeps me on my toes. When I find myself feeling weak or tired I think about that one tough jam when we’re all exhausted, that’s the jam that could make the bout. I want to be a skater my teammates know they can count on, that’s what pushes me. Do you have any pre-game rituals? A good beat sets the tone for me on bout day, some Missy Elliot and Nine Inch Nails do the trick. Who are some of your derby idols? Suzy Hotrod, Juke Boxx, Bettie the Kid, and Smarty Pants to name a few. How do you keep such a level head during game play? When I feel myself getting frustrated or loosing focus I shake my head, gather myself and try to apply those feelings to a goal, communication, walling up, sharking, whatever it may be. Freaking out doesn’t help anyone, the calmer the better. Do you have any advice for aspiring jammers? I used to be scared of jamming and the pressure of that position but I’ve learned to tackle your doubt head on. Set a goal every night, even if it carries over to a dozen practices don’t quit until you see it through. How do you intend to get ready for upcoming travel team games? I know that as our league transitions, it’s my responsibility as a skater to step up my game on and off the track. Taking better care of my body is at the top of the list, and stepping outside of my comfort zone is key. What can we expect to see from you next season? My first season has exceeded all my expectations. I’m pumped to push harder, sweat longer, and soak up everything I can. I am eager to see what next season has in store for me, but whatever it is you can expect to see me give it my all. Leave Comment: |
